1 The meeting was declared open at 6.10 p.m with five 2 members of the committee present and Mr. R. Deacon, as 3 an adviser.

4 The minutes were taken as read, and the absence of 5 Mr. Reardon and Miss Watkinson was discussed. This was 6 due to their failure of examinations last session and thus 7 to be considered permanent. Because of this, the 8 existing committee members re-arranged their duties with 9 unanimous consent. Mr. Graham Thompson was to take 10 over as President, whilst the burden of Assistant 11 Secretary was temporarily put on the shoulders of 12 Mr. Chris Cooper until such a time as another committee 13 member (preferably a fresher) could be co-opted to take over 14 either this task or that of U.H.F. Secretary. It was also 15 decided to co-opt a female member to take over Miss Sue 16 Watkinson’s duties

17 The term’s programme was discussed and found to 18 be in a very chaotic state. A Fresher’s tea had been 19 arranged but because of Mr. Reardon’s absence, no 20 speakers were forthcoming from this source. A joint meeting 21 with U.L.U. Humanists had been arranged for I.C. in the 22 week beginning 30th Nov, bu with Wayland Young but 23 Mr. Francis Williams had communicated that he could 24 not now attend on the 29th October. It was decided to 25 ask if he could come later in the term.

1 Until such time as Mr. Griffiths could arrange a 2 programme it was decided to contact the Communist 3 and Catholic societies to investigate the possibility of a 4 joint meeting.

5 The Fresher’s tea was discussed and Mr. Bob Deacon 6 consented to come along and give the first-year members a 7 talk by way of introducing Humanism.

8 Mr. Cooper said he would do all in his power to get
9 library books and posters to display to the freshers.

10 The subject of a sherry party at the end of this 11 term was deferred until a later meeting, but Mr. John 12 Griffiths was congratulated on getting Marghanita Laski 13 to speak for the Huxley Society at a General Studies 14 lecture on November 10th.

15 The meeting was closed at 6.50 p.m.
